    los lápices. you have to make pencils, plural. Becuase you wouldn't say "those pencil".

    "Lapiz" is irregular, and follows the pattern "lapiz (singular) "lapices" (plural). "la cruz" (cross) (singular) becomes "las cruces" (plural)
