i’ve tried the number combos, and its a 1000 word essay- i don’t have the time or patience to go to insert>symbol> etc.

so if you have the number combos can you give like, specific directions?

my microsoft is from 2003, also.
thanks in advance!

I know 2 different ways :

1.- You can use a "Virtual keyboard" without changing settings on yr computer. This is the link http://www.virtualkeyboard.ws/
You choose the language, you type Spanish word in the virtual keyboard, then copy and paste it on yr text.

2.- Use the Alt + key codes system -

You’ll probably need to change the keyboard layout of your computer from US (or whatever it is now) to US-Int’l, that is, US-International. The first link in my source should tell you all you need to know about that. The second is a list of the alt key codes for foreign symbols. Hope that helps!

I'm Italian and I use mostly the # 1 virtual keyboard (I've recently discovered it ) since I need sometimes for multiple Spanish or French symbols not in my Italian keyboard

ok. Click on Start, go into “my computer” then click on drive (C:) and open it. Then you find and open a folder called “windows” then you find and open a folder called “system 32″ then you scroll down, find, and open an application called “carmap” or “character map”
With Character map, you can find the character you need or the accent and then copy it from the application and paste it into your word document.

    OR

If you have windows Vista just click start and in the search bar, just type in “character map” and it will come up.

It’s a two step process, but easy to remember. For an “e’” with an accent type Control apostrophe then let go and press “e”. For a tilde you would type Shift Ctrl ~ and then an “n”.
