I want to learn to speak and read spanish. I think that it would be a wonderful life skill to have! Has anyone used any language-learning tools that they especially liked? I have heard that the computer software "Rosetta Stone" is good- has anyone used it before? Did it work? Any other advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for your help!!

here's what helped me a lot: try switching the yahoo homepage to spanish and use altavista.babelfish (i think) for translating the words and phrases you don't recognize…this will work if you keep at it!! good luck, learning a second or even a third language is very good!!!

i wanted to use rosetta stone too, but it's expensive. you can go to your local library and pick up spanish books for babies and toodlers and move up. watch the spanish channels. and buy a spanish music cd (perferable something slow like latin jazz or son) and make sure they have to spanish and english lyrics.

    Good luck

Been there, done that. Best way is to make friends with someone your age and who is Spanish and who you can discover you have things in common. They will speak conversational Spanish and, at the same time, enroll in a Spanish class, even if it is a night class. The two in tandem will accelerate your learning experience.

I think that the best way is to ask someone who's Spanish to teach you. That's the way my mom learned Spanish…

Next is you could borrow a English-Spanish books in the nearest local library

Well, I think you could also stick to your Rosetta Stone…

When learning spanish it will start out hard but will soften up later.
try taking a class around you town or even ask your friends to help you study a bit with the stuff you know and when you get it here is a game i like.
Make notecards and have friends put spanish words on them. Then make sure there in one room for example a microwave or refridgerator. tape them on them and have a friend time you take turns it is fun
