I would like to learn Spanish (the dialect used in Mexico, not Spain) but I don’t know the best way to jump into it. Can anyone recommend a good way to get started and progress as I get better? I would prefer to learn words and phrases used in conversation first and a formal list of the vocabulary later, but whatever works best is fine with me. If anyone has learned Spanish as a second language could you share with me how you accomplished that? Muchos Gracias!

first of all: is MUCHAS GRACIAS :)
well, translate songs (spanish to english), so you’ll learn many phrases (i learnt english that way).-

what’s your name? =¿cuál es tu nombre?
how old are you? = ¿que edad tienes?
i like it = me gusta
i don’t like it = no me gusta
my name is = mi nombre es
im from… = soy de… (or vengo de…)
i have “X” years old = tengo “X” años
my adress is = mi dirección es…
my phone number is = mi número telefónico es…
today im going to= hoy voy a…

some verbs:

run= correr
drink= beber
jump = saltar
listen = escuchar
sing= cantar
talk= hablar
cry= llorar
love= amar
eat= comer
think= pensar
change= cambiar
swim= nadar
cook= cocinar
feel= sentir
play (game)= jugar
play (instrument) = tocar (for example “i play the piano” = “yo toco el piano)
touch= tocar
kiss= besar

* verb to be: ser/ estar

i am = yo soy
i was = yo fui
i will be = yo seré

i am = yo estoy
i was in… yo estuve en…
i will be in… = yo estaré en…

    Spanish language especially the Mexican is very difficult, the best way to learn it is talking with another person who speaks and learn verbs in Spanish.I’m learning English and I am Mexican, if you want you can leave me your msn to talk, so I practice my English and you learn mexican Spanish.

    I heartily recommend Rocket Spanish.
    It’s a fun, effective way to learn the language.

    And it’s much more cheaper than other options…
    Good luck :-)

    Take a course. There are several courses which are offered online.
    I am studying Spanish with the course mentioned at the following website: http://www.learnspanish.tk
    I can really recommend them. The course is easy and fun. There’s also rosetta stone but its more expensive.
