European Portuguese, that is.

Not Spanish though because that's obvious. Could I learn Italian easily???

Thanks!

Olá, como esta hoje? Sou galês e infelizmente, não falo bem português, só um pouco.
I'm learning Portuguese at the moment (slowly) as I like going to Portugal on holiday.I would suggest Italian, it's quite close to Portuguese and Spanish as it has two verbs for 'to be' (like ser and estar.). A restaurateur in Guia told me that he had learned Spanish and Italian and found it quite easy.
Boa sorte.

If you speak European Portuguese, do go for Spanish. It's going to be easy for you and you'll have the pleasure of being bilingual.
Once you master a second language, the third is going to be much easier since you've managed to create the tools and strategies you need in order to deal with foreign languages.

Portuguese is one of the Romance languages, so any of the others (Spanish, French, Italian) should be fairly easy to learn.

I'm American, but I learned Spanish in high school. Now, I'm studying French, and knowing Spanish makes it a lot easier!

Hi,(thanks for adding that on your profile, w/ out an avi pic, it is hard to know (sorry), but yes English, has many rules about sentence structure, and Spanish they say is the easiest to learn, but your language is close to that anyway, but I found when I lived in Europe that German is a lot like English, words are similar (my spelling is wrong) but for instance goo-ten Morgen for good morning goo-ten no-bin for good night, just an example. I studied some Japanese, it is real hard, but if you memorize it, it isn't so bad. But I'd say English, Spanish,German, just my opinion-I am sure everyone has a learning curve that makes one easier than another. But, Yes you are very lucky. and only the second person I have ever met (besides my family (deceased) from Portugal!) but glad you speak English too.I am proud to be Portuguese (1/2). My daughter in engaged to a man from Portugal all is family moved here to the US and settled in Massachusetts. That is where my dad's family went to, big community in Fall River, Massachusetts. Good Luck!

    Nakedman is wrong.

The most spoken languages in order are
    Mandarin Chinese
    Hindi
    Spanish
    English.

The two most close to Portuguese are Spanish and Italian.
Since you already also have English, I would suggest Spanish.

Chinese is stupidly difficult! Don't waste your life on it.

    Hi Liz,

French is also a latine language, so it will be easier for you to learn, Italian and Spanish too, but I prefer French.

    Love, Gi.
